Crazy Key West Tips

Don't Rent a Scooter: The Island is so small that you will do fine on a bicycle and cabs. Scooters are more expensive and dangerous. I have seen a lot of people really hurt themselves on these things. Trust us you don't want to ride a scooter after going to the Crazy Key West Bars.

The Summer is Hot:
We realize that this is stating the obvious but people don't realize how hot it can get here. The temperature rarely hits the mid 90's but the humidity is brutal even late at night. If you come to Key West in the Summer, don't bother bringing any cool weather gear - you will never need it.

Old Town vs New Town: Key West has two main sections: Old Town and New Town. When visiting you are better off in Old Town. That is where most of the fun stuff is.

Drive from Miami:
If you are coming for more than a weekend you might want to consider driving from Miami. It is a 3 hour drive but it is very scenic. We have lots of friends who have done this and they all enjoyed it. Additionally the flights are less expensive to Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

Go to Happy Hour: Key West is a bit expensive but there are lots of great deals out there. One of them is Happy Hour. Many bars have 2 for 1 drink specials and great deals on food.

Watch the Sun Rise: Everyone knows to go to the Sunset Festival at Mallory Square but very few go watch the sun rise. Either set you alarm clock one day or stay up all night. Go to the end of the pier and watch the sun rise. Trust us you won't be disappointed.

Take the Conch Train Tour:
On your first or second day in Key West take the Conch Train Tour. It really helps get acclimated to Key West which can be tricky to do.

Dress Casual: Key West has a very casual atmosphere so you don't need any fancy clothes. you can wear sandals and shorts into the best restaurants on the Island.

Go Snorkelling: Key West has the only living coral reef in the United States so make sure you don't sleep the day away - go check it out.

Get off Duval Street: It seems that most people walk aimlessly up and down Duval Street when they come to Key West. Get a map and leave Duval Street - It doesn't matter where. Take your map and start exploring. There are lots of interesting things to see so be a little adventurous.
